California Academy of Sciences

We provided project management services during design and construction of the California Academy of Sciences project, which opened to the public in September 2008. The Academy contains a natural history museum, the Steinhart Aquarium, and the Morrison Planetarium. In addition, it houses an impressive collection of 18 million research specimens, which date back to Charles Darwin. The Academy is the largest public LEED platinum building in the world. The LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) rating system is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings.

We developed a unique project delivery method using public and private funds to deliver this important and complex project. We bid and awarded 23 trade contracts totaling more than $110 million of the $480 million budget. We managed the use of all public funds during design and construction and played an important role in coordinating the work with the general contractor, consultant engineers and architects; permitting authorities and policy makers in San Francisco.

This impressive project was completed within budget and ahead of schedule.
