Various Locations Pavement Renovation and Sewer Replacement Project No. 63

Project Description

San Francisco Public Works has contracted with Ronan Construction Inc. to install new sewer utilities and renovate the roadway at various locations in San Francisco as part of the Various Locations Pavement Renovation and Sewer Replacement Project No. 63 (VL63). We will be performing this work in the Marina, Cow Hollow, Russian Hill and Cathedral Hill neighborhoods.

We have inspected the sewer facilities of all the blocks listed below, and will be replacing those that we found to be cracked and/or broken.  Replacing these pipes now will prevent possible collapse of the sewer mains and pavement in the future. Sewer service will not be interrupted during the construction.  Pavement Renovation and Sewer replacement work will occur between February 2024 and September 2024.

Finally, we will be constructing 6 new, ADA-complaint curb ramps at the NE, NW and SW corners of the Larkin Street and Green Street intersection.

We expect this work to take three to four weeks to complete in total barring any unforeseen circumstances or inclement weather. There will be some restrictions to on-street parking on these blocks of Larkin Street while this work is taking place, but there are no planned street or lane closures. A few weeks after this work is complete, our crews will return to re-pave LarkinStreet from Union Street to Vallejo Street.

4/12/24: Starting April 16th, we will be replacing sewer laterals in two locations - on Pacific Avenue at the Polk Street intersection and on Leavenworth Street at the Clay Street intersection. We expect this work to take four days to complete in total at both locations. Once this work is complete, we will be constructing new, 10-inch thick concrete bus pads over the area that we've replaced sewer laterals. This bus pad construction work is scheduled to begin on April 25th. Once the concrete for these bus pads is poured, it will need a few days to properly dry and cure, and a portion of the street will need to be blocked off to all traffic to allow this to happen. Specifically, the bus pads will be constructed at the southeast corner of Leavenworth and Clay (in front of 1248 - 1258 Leavenworth) and at the northeast and southeast corners of Pacific and Polk (in front of 1572 Pacific and 1591 Pacific).

4/4/24: Starting April 8th, we will be replacing the sewer main on Jones Street between Lombard Street and Vallejo Street. Once we install the sewer main on this block, we will then replace any damaged sewer laterals, which are the smaller pipes that run perpendicular to the curb and connect the sewer main with household plumbing systems. We expect this work to take about 3 to 4 weeks to complete, barring any unforeseen circumstances. After sewer work on this block is complete, we will then begin sewer main replacement on Vallejo Street between Jones Street and Hyde Street. You will receive additional notice about this work in the mail roughly 10-15 days before it is schedule to begin.

3/22/24: On Monday, March 25th, we will be re-paving Peter Yorke Way between Geary Boulevard and Post Street. The first step of this work is to grind away the existing asphalt roadway surface. We will be performing this work on Wednesday the 27th. This work should is expected to take two days to complete barring any unforeseen circumstances or inclement weather. During construction, all on-street parking and through traffic will be prohibited until newly-laid asphalt reaches a safe temperature for vehicles to travel on. Local access to residents of the area will remain throughout the project.

From March 26th through the 28th, we will be constructing a new sewer manhole at the intersection of Pacific Avenue and McCormick Street. In order to perform this work, we will need to close McCormick Street to all vehicle traffic from 8am to 5pm on Tuesday, March 26th, Wednesday March 27th and Thursday, March 28th.This means that access to all garages and driveways on McCormick Street will be restricted during these times.

If you need to access your vehicle during these periods, please make other parking and vehicle access arrangements. Roadway, driveway and garage access will be restored each evening by 5pm.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause, and assure you that we will be making these necessary sewer improvements in a quick and efficient way as possible.

A few weeks after we construct this new manhole, we will be coming back to build a new raised crosswalk across McCormick at the Pacific Avenue intersection. This may require similar temporary road closures. You will receive additional notice a few weeks prior to the start of this work.
