San Francisco Public Works has contracted with Precision Engineering Inc. to install new sewer utilities and renovate the roadway at various locations in San Francisco as part of the Various Locations Pavement Renovation and Sewer Replacement Project No. 60 (VL60). We will be performing this work in the Pacific Heights, Anza Vista, Western Addition, Cathedral Hill, Telegraph Hill, Inner Sunset and Outer Sunset neighborhoods.
We have inspected the sewer facilities of all the blocks listed below, and will be replacing those that we found to be cracked and/or broken. Replacing these pipes now will prevent possible collapse of the sewer mains and pavement in the future. Sewer service will not be interrupted during the construction.
This project will include sewer main replacement, curb ramp installation, street base repairs and repaving. Work hours will vary by location, however, typical working hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Weekend work is allowed but has not been scheduled at this time.

Construction Updates
10/25/24: Street base reconstruction on California Street between Scott Street and Divisadero Street taking place next week.
Starting next Monday, October 28th, crews will be reconstructing portions of the concrete street base on California Street between Scott Street and Divisadero Street. This will be taking place in both the eastbound and westbound bus lanes only, and will not be impacting the other two lanes closer to the center of the roadway. We expect this work to take one week to complete. The following week, we will repair the portions of the concrete street base on California Street from Divisadero Street to Broderick Street.
10/23/24: Paving on Turk Street scheduled next week
Next Monday, October 28th and Tuesday, October 29th, our crews will be re-paving Turk Street from Van Ness Avenue to Gough Street. The block between Gough Street and Franklin Street will be re-paved Monday the 28th, and the block between Franklin Street and Van Ness Avenue will be re-paved on Tuesday the 29th. Each block is expected to take one workday to re-pave in total. Please refer to the no-parking signs posted on these blocks, as well as public notices sent through the mail, for more information.
10/21/24: Work starting on Ellis Street next week.
Starting on October 21st, we will be performing roadway reconstruction on Ellis Street between Van Ness Avenue and Gough Street. The first step of this work is to re-construct a two small sections of the concrete parking strip on the north side of Ellis between Franklin and Van Ness. The parking strip is the concrete portion of the roadway near the curb. After this work is complete, our contractor will re-pave Ellis between Gough and Van Ness. We expect this work to take roughly 2 to 3 weeks to complete. You will receive another notice in the mail before this work begins. The final phase of this work will be to re-construct the two speed bumps on Ellis between Gough and Franklin. This work will take place shortly after the rest of the roadway is re-paved.
9/30/24: Bus Pad Construction on California Street starting on Thursday, October 3rd.
On Thursday, October 3rd, we will begin constructing a new, 10-inch thick concrete bus pad at the southeast corner of the California Street and Pierce Street intersection. This workwill take approximately 10 days to complete in total. Most of this time is to allow the newly-poured concrete to properly cure and harden to the point that it can hold the weight of SFMTA buses and other vehicles. This work will require us to temporarily move the bus stop for the SFMTA 1 California bus line. Please see signs posted on the bus shelter at this location for more information on the bus stop relocation.
9/25/24: Electrical, street base and paving work starting on Turk Street on Monday, September 30th.
Next Monday, September 30th, we will begin working on Turk Street between Laguna Street and Van Ness Avenue. The first step of this work will be the installation of a new electrical conduit at the mid-block crosswalk on Turk between Laguna and Gough Streets, near Jefferson Square Park. Then, we will repair the portions of the concrete street base on Turk Street from Laguna Street to Van Ness Avenue. This work will begin on the block between Laguna and Gough Streets and move east toward Van Ness. We expect this work to take 3 weeks to complete. After it is complete, we will be re-paving this entire stretch of Turk Street. Additional notice will be given before paving begins.
9/17/24: PAVING WORK ON CALIFORNIA STREET AND BUCHANAN STREET HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED.
Our contractor will now be re-paving Buchanan Street between Clay Street and Sacramento Street on Thursday, September 18th and California Street between Franklin Street and Van Ness Avenue on Monday, September 23rd.
9/11/24: Sewer main replacement on California Street starting next week
Starting next Monday, September 16th, our contractor will be replacing the sewer main on California Street between Pierce Street and Steiner Street. Once the sewer main is replaced, we will then inspect the block's sewer laterals and replace them on an as-needed basis. Sewer laterals are what connect household plumbing to the sewer main. In total, we expect sewer work to take between 3 and 4 weeks to complete on this block. Once all sewer work is complete on this block, we will reconstruct portions of the concrete street base that are currently in poor condition. The final phase of this work is to fully re-pave the entire block. Additional notice will be given prior to re-paving work.
9/11/24: Paving on 34th Avenue, Pacheco Street, Buchanan Street and California Street Scheduled for next week.

9/4/24: Paving on Clay Street and 29th Avenue Scheduled for next week
8/23/24: Work starting on O'Farrell Street this week.
Starting on August 26th, we will be performing sewer work, street base reconstruction and re-paving work on O'Farrell Street between Masonic Street and St. Joseph's Avenue. The first phase of this work is to replace a small portion of the sewer main between Anzavista Avenue and Lyon Street, which should take roughly 3 to 5 workdays to complete.
Then, we will repair the entire concrete street base on O'Farrell Street from Masonic Street to St. Joseph's Avenue. This work will take place in two phases. The first phase will be between Masonic Street and Lyon Street, which we expect to take 3 weeks to complete. The second phase will be between Lyon Street to St. Joseph's Avenue, which we expect to take 2 weeks to complete.
These blocks will be re-paved within a few weeks of sewer and street base work. You will receive additional notice in advance of paving work. Please note that there will be periodic lane closures on O'Farrell Street throughout the street base reconstruction and re-paving process.
8/14/24: Paving on Presidio Avenue Scheduled for August 19th - August 21st
Starting Monday, August 19th, San Francisco Public Works will be re-paving Presidio Avenue from Pacific Avenue to Sacramento Street. We expect this work to take 3 days in total to complete. The first step of this work is to grind away the existing asphalt roadway surface. Then, we will re-apply two new inches of asphalt to the roadway. It will progress in the following order:

8/9/24: Work starting on California, Buchanan and 34th Streets starting next Thursday, August 15th.
Starting Thursday, August 15, San Francisco Public Works will be performing street base reconstruction on 34th Avenue from Pacheco Street to Ortega Street, as well as on California Street between Franklin Street and Van Ness Avenue. Both blocks will be fully re-paved with new asphalt after street base reconstruction is completed. We expect this work to take between 3 and 4 weeks to complete on each block.
Also starting on August 15th, we will be performing sewer main replacement on Buchanan Street between Clay Street and Sacramento Street.Once thisportion of the sewer main is replaced, our crews will then inspect the block's sewer laterals and replace them on an as-needed basis.
