COMMUNITY CLEAN TEAM SUMMER SPRUCE-UP ON SATURDAY

Volunteers to Beautify and Clean District 2 Neighborhoods

San Francisco, CA –  More than 150 volunteers are expected to join District 2 Supervisor Mark Farrell and Public Works crews at this month’s Community Clean Team workday to clean up schools, commercial corridors and tourist destinations in in the Marina, Russian Hill and other District 2 neighborhoods.

•     Time: 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. (speaking program starts at 9 a.m.)
•     Location: Kickoff at Marina Middle School, 3500 Fillmore St.
•     Who: Supervisor Mark Farrell, City work crews and community volunteers

Community Clean Team, Public Works’ largest and longest-running volunteer program, hits the ground in a different supervisorial district each month.  Saturday’s event is the sixth of 11 workdays planned for this year.  Established in 2000, the program has logged more than 166,000 volunteer hours, added more than 33,500 plants to public spaces, and painted over more than 3.5 million square feet of graffiti.

Volunteers from all over the City spend a few hours on Saturday mornings at Community Clean Team to help clean and beautify San Francisco neighborhoods by landscaping medians, planting trees, sprucing up tree basins, abating graffiti and picking up litter. Volunteers gather after the work is done to share a community meal.

Photo opportunities at Saturday’s event include:

• Plant 14 trees at 10 different locations on Francisco, Lombard, Pine, Sacramento and Union streets
• Weed and backfill tree basins on Fillmore, Beach Street and Chestnut streets
• Remove overgrowth around Larkin Street stairs at Bay Street
• Pick up litter on Lombard’s Crooked Street and on Bay Street from Fillmore to Van Ness
• Park beautification at Moscone Recreation Center
• Power wash Marina Middle School schoolyard
