Core Values

The Public Works core values

Public Works has three workplace core values that we live and embrace everyday:                                Respect, Integrity and Responsiveness.

What are core values?                                                                                                                                                                        Core values are a set of beliefs and commitments for how we treat each other. They explain who we are as an organization and reflect our collective, fundamental beliefs. Each of our core values are constant, essential and enduring as they embody the traits and qualities that represent Public Works' highest priorities.

What can core values do for us?                                                                                                                                                       Core values establish the quality of our work environment and shape the culture of our organization. They also direct how we conduct ourselves at work and guide our actions as public servants and co-workers. Serving as a code of conduct, our core values guide behaviors throughout all ranks of the organization and drive cultural change, help address unacceptable behavior in a non-threatening way and reinforce desired behaviors.  

Public Works Core Values 2017 Employee Video Contest!

  • Create a video that incorporates at least one of the Public Works Core Values: Respect, Integrity, Responsiveness
  • Maximum running time: 60 seconds
  • Contest is open to Public Works employees – either individuals or groups of no more than five people
  • Submissions: Feb. 13 –  March 10, 2017
  • Winners will be announced on March 14
  • Prizes: 1st place - $200 gift card, 2nd place - $125 gift card, 3rd place - $75 gift card
  • Please note that working on the video production must be done on your own time; using your lunch time is OK
  • No offensive material or profanity (see below for detailed rules)
  • Submit your video to or to Traci Lawrence, Jeremy Spitz or Christopher Koh and include the names of all participants when you submit

Detailed rules:                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 Videos must contain only original material. Submissions cannot contain copyrighted music or images, unless you have authorization proof to use them. When filming people, participants must ensure the subjects have given their consent.

Violence, profanity, sexually explicit content, libel and/or attacks on individuals or organizations may not be depicted in any form. Videos should not invade privacy, reveal other people’s personal information or display predatory behavior. Videos must not contain material that promotes intolerance, harassment, intimidation, racism, hatred or harm against any group, individual or organization or promote discrimination based on race, gender, religion, nationality, disability, sexual orientation or age.

The Core Values Team reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to disqualify and delete any entry it deems to be offensive, inappropriate, derogatory and libelous, or not in keeping with the competition theme or that is otherwise not in compliance with the official contest rules.
