Community Clean Team Kicks Off This Saturday for Its 19th Season!
Volunteers to Beautify Parks, Schools and Public Spaces in District 2 Neighborhoods
San Francisco, CA – Nearly 200 volunteers are expected to join Supervisor Catherine Stefani and City crews at the kickoff of the 2019 season of Community Clean Team, Public Works’ largest and longest-running neighborhood beautification program.
“Last fall we launched Love Our City, encouraging all who live and work in San Francisco to lend a helping hand to improve our diverse neighborhoods. Community Clean Team keeps the momentum going,” said San Francisco Public Works Director Mohammed Nuru. “It takes all of us – City crews, residents, merchants, school groups and community organizations – to keep our city clean, vibrant and welcoming.”
Saturday marks the first of 11 Community Clean Team events in 2019. Each month, volunteers focus on a different supervisorial district to spruce up public spaces, parks, schools and corridors.
On tap for the morning are cleaning and greening projects in the Marina, Cow Hollow, Presidio Heights, Pacific Heights and other District 2 neighborhoods.

Photo opportunities at Saturday’s event include:
- Pruning, weeding and spreading mulch at Galileo High School
- Removing graffiti and refreshing street furniture on Van Ness Avenue between Lombard and Beach streets
- Planting trees at various locations on Fillmore, Pine and Clay streets
- Sweeping sidewalks and removing litter on Masonic Avenue between Bush Street and Geary Boulevard
The program’s success relies on the many sponsors and volunteer organizations that pitch in. They include 76, Starbucks, California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, Fix-It Team, Friends of the Urban Forest, PG&E, Emerald Fund, Recology, Academy of Art University, United Playaz, Walgreens, San Francisco Clean City Coalition, Local 261, San Francisco Parks Alliance, San Francisco Housing Authority, San Francisco Pretrial Diversion Project, San Francisco Recreation and Park Department, Community Youth Center San Francisco, San Francisco Unified School District, Tzu-Chi Foundation, SF Geo Care and SF Environment.
