PUBLIC WORKS TO HOST MEETING FOR SECOND STREET IMPROVEMENT PROJECT

San Francisco, CA –The San Francisco Department of Public Works (DPW) will host a meeting to discuss design options for the 2nd Street Improvement Project. The project extends from Market Street to King Street, stretching from downtown San Francisco to the SOMA district. The community, through the recently adopted East SOMA Area Plan, identified 2nd Street as a primary pedestrian, bicycle and transit thoroughfare and a ‘green connector’ for the neighborhood. This project will work toward implementing that vision by transforming 2nd Street into a pleasant multi-modal corridor that improves safety and access for pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists.

In accordance with the San Francisco Bicycle Plan, the project will provide space for bicycles along the entire length of 2nd Street, from King to Market Streets. The project also includes pedestrian improvements, roadway resurfacing, the installation of ADA-compliant curb ramps, and upgrades to the traffic signal system.

The meeting is scheduled for Thursday, September 20, 2012 from 6pm-8pm at the CBS Interactive Studios which are located at 235 Second Street, San Francisco, CA. Please enter via Tehama Street. Members of the public wishing to attend the meeting are encouraged to RSVP in advance at www.secondstreetproject.eventbrite.com to minimize any possible delays at check-in.

DPW is responsible for the care and maintenance of San Francisco’s streets and much of its infrastructure. The department cleans and resurfaces streets; plants and maintains City street trees; designs, constructs and maintains city-owned facilities; inspects streets and sidewalks; constructs curb ramps; removes graffiti from public property; and partners with the diverse neighborhoods in San Francisco to provide stellar cleaning and greening services.
