Project Information
The Palou Avenue Streetscape Improvement Project extends the entire length of the street, from Barneveld Avenue to Crisp Road, in the Bayview. The renovation will provide a safer and more inviting environment for pedestrians, motorists and transit riders. The streetscape improvements include: Over 100 new street trees, new plants, better lighting, bus shelters, curb ramps, bulb-outs, median islands, repaving and other enhancements to improve pedestrian safety by calming traffic and improving visibility at intersections. The sewer main also will be replaced on some blocks.
Crews installed landscaping which includes tree planting in the sidewalk at several locations along Palou Avenue. The new street trees will be maintained by our contractor during the three-year establishment period. After that time, Public Works will assume maintenance of the street trees, under our voter-approved StreetTreeSF program that transferred responsibility for the care of the City's trees and surrounding sidewalks from property owners to Public Works.
The blocks scheduled for sewer main replacement work include:
Palou Avenue: Selby Street to Lane Street
Palou Avenue: Keith Street to Jennings Street
In addition, sewer catch-basin and/or culvert work will be necessary at the following intersections:
Palou Avenue & Industrial Street
Palou Avenue & Ingalls Street
Phelps Street & Oakdale Avenue
Palou Avenue & Hawes Street
The streetscape improvements include: New street trees and plants, better lighting, bus shelters, curb ramps, bulb-outs, median islands, repaving and other enhancements to improve pedestrian safety by calming traffic and improving visibility at intersections.
