Broadway Streetscape Improvement Project Phase III

Broadway is one of San Francisco’s most iconic streets, serving as a vital commercial and cultural artery through several neighborhoods. The Broadway Streetscape Improvement Project enhances the safety, appearance, and functionality of this important corridor.

Phases I and II, completed in 2005 and 2008, delivered transit, pedestrian, and resurfacing improvements to two key segments of Broadway. Phase III will build on this work by focusing on the stretch of Broadway between Kearny and Montgomery Streets, with additional roadway resurfacing and restriping extending to Battery Street.

Planned improvements include:

  • Sidewalk bulb-outs at intersections to shorten crossing distances and enhance pedestrian safety

  • New street trees to provide shade and greenery

  • Pedestrian-scale street lighting to improve nighttime visibility and comfort

  • Roadway resurfacing and restriping to create a smoother and more clearly defined travel path

Together, these improvements will strengthen connections between neighborhoods, support local businesses, and make Broadway a safer, more welcoming place for everyone.
