Project Description

The Mission and 4^th Street Bulbout Project will revitalize a heavily used transit stop in the SoMa District.  Improvements will take place on Mission Street, from 4^th Street to Jessie East Street. An essential transit route for a busy downtown corridor, the Mission and 4th Street Bulbout Project aims to create a safer and wider sidewalk for pedestrian foot traffic, along with aiding buses to avoid heavy traffic and reduce platform crowding at peak travel-times. Additional improvements include approval of a new permanent full-time transit lane adjacent to the bulbout. The improvements will create a safer location for pedestrians and transit users.

Planned upgrades include: 

• Sidewalk extension to allow installation of a new bulbout 
• Reinforced bus pad to better sustain the weight of transit vehicles
• Sub-sidewalk structural repairs to improve the integrity of the sidewalk and sub-sidewalk basements
• ADA compliant curb ramp to ensure accessibility on our city's sidewalks 
• Sewer later replacement 

Project Timeline

• Duration: Approximately 3 months. 
  Please note: the project could run longer than anticipated due to unforeseens and/or significant rain delays. 

This project is part of the greater Mission Street SoMa Transit Improvement Project, the recent permanent move to create a full-time emergency transit lane will provide service improvements for those who rely on public transportation to commute to work or to run errands.
