Beale Street Improvement Project
San Francisco Public Works has partnered with Esquivel Grading & Paving, Inc. to perform vital infrastructure improvements along Beale Street Street between Market Street and Folsom Street. Construction on this project is scheduled to begin in late Summer 2025 and reach completion in Spring 2026.
The project scope of work includes sidewalk reconstruction, sidewalk bulb-out construction, curb ramp reconstruction, concrete street base repair and street re-paving. We will also be constructing new concrete islands dividing Beale Street's two-way bicycle lane from adjacent vehicle travel lanes, replacing the existing plastic bollards in this area.
This work will primarily be taking place on the block of Beale between Market and Missions Streets. Minimal work will be taking place on Beale between Mission and Howard Streets, as the only planned improvements to that block are the installation of concrete islands between the bicycle lane and vehicle travel lanes. On Beale between Howard and Folsom, the only planned work is the reconstruction of the curb ramps, sidewalk, curb and gutter on the southwest corner of the Beale and Folsom intersection.
We apologize in advance for any inconvenience caused by construction. We will do everything possible to minimize the impact of our activities in the neighborhood. If you have concerns (scheduled deliveries, construction questions, accessibility needs, etc.) please contact the project's public affairs representative, Benjamin Peterson.
Your cooperation will help this project be a success for your neighborhood and the City of San Francisco. Thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation.

Construction Updates
November 3, 2025: Sewer work on Beale between Mission and Market, as well as at the Beale and Howard Intersection, taking place this week.
Throughout this week, our construction crews will be performing a variety of sewer work on Beale Street. On the block between Mission and Market Streets, we will be constructing a new sewer catch basin and culvert, a new manhole as well as installing a new section of sewer main.
At the Beale and Howard intersection, we will first be plugging, filling, abandoning and replacing catch basins and culverts. New culverts will be in a slightly different location to improve water flow and prevent ponding during rainstorms.
We expect all of the work listed above to be complete by the end of the workday on Friday, November 7th.
August 29, 2025: Construction on the Beale Street Improvement Project starting in early September
The first step of this project will be constructing new sewer culverts and catch basins at the Beale Street near the Market Street intersection, as well as the foundation for a new traffic signal pole at the Beale Street and Mission Street intersection. We expect this work to take two weeks in total to complete. After this work is complete, we'll continue with further sewer work on Beale Street between Market Street and Mission Street, as well as underground electrical work at the Beale Street and Mission Street intersection.
