HOW DO I GET AN EXCAVATION PERMIT?

Before applying for an Excavation Permit, you must register with the San Francisco Public Works. You must provide or have on record with the Department: 

1. A copy of the legal document (such as a franchise, license or encroachment permit) authorizing you to occupy and use the Public Right-of-Way for the purpose stated in the Excavation Permit application. 

2. A current Business Tax Registration Certificate 

A Mobile Food Facility is any vehicle or pushcart used in conjunction with a commissary or other permanent food facility upon which food is sold or distributed at retail in a static location. The Department of Public Health and San Francisco Fire Department continue to enforce public safety regulations, while location permitting was transferred from the Police Department to Public Works.

There is no fee required for a Tree Planting Permit, however, the permit is necessary to ensure that street trees do not impact infrastructure and are appropriately planted so that they thrive and become a neighborhood asset.
