The Folsom Street Streetscape Improvement project extends from 19th Street to Cesar Chavez Street in the Mission District, and includes traffic signal upgrades, resurfacing and pedestrian and bicycle safety improvements. The community, through the Eastern Neighborhoods Planning process, identified Folsom Street as a ‘green connector’ for the neighborhoods it passes through, citing its central location and the consistent canopy of large street trees along it southern portion.

The project ensured that a safe, gracious, inviting, and ecologically sustainable Cesar Chavez Street emerged as a focal point for one of San Francisco’s most vibrant neighborhoods. The community approved,conceptual plan for Cesar Chavez was the result of a two-year community design process that included a series of public meetings and workshops.
 

The $248 million Road Repaving and Street Safety Bond was approved by voters in November 2011. With it, the City is repaving streets in neighborhoods throughout San Francisco; repairing deteriorating bridges, overpasses and stairways; and making traffic, pedestrian and bicycle and safety improvements.
 

The Bartlett Street/Mercado Plaza project lies between 21st and 22nd Street in the heart of the San Francisco Mission District. Building on the ideas of the Mission Streetscape Plan, a 2-year community-based effort led by the San Francisco Planning Department (2008-2010) and the more recent placemaking efforts of the Mission Community Market, the Bartlett Streetscape Improvement Project will provide a beautiful, safe and much needed public space for a wide variety of community programs and bring diverse communities together.

The project consisted of renovation work to an existing single story, wood framed and textured concrete block building. The work also included adding 440 square feet to the west side of building; construct an exterior ramp, improvement of the outdoor court/walk/playground and site furnishings at various locations throughout the existing three acres.

Building

Mansell Street was conceived in the 1950s as part of a never-completed cross-town freeway. By design, Mansell Street primarily serves motorized vehicles. The width of the traffic lanes and three different speed limits posted encourage speeding. Pedestrians have to walk on the street or climb over a guard rail and walk along an informal path to access different park facilities or to commute between neighborhoods. Bicyclists currently share the road with vehicles travelling at speeds up to 45 MPH, and public transit users have to wait on the street for a bus.
 

The San Bruno Avenue Streetscape Improvement Project is the first completed project of the Great Streets program. The project planted 120 new street trees, enlarged tree wells with Fortnight Lilies and decomposed granite, and the installed banner poles and banners unique to the neighborhood. Tree species, selected for their beauty and suitability to the environment, include Scarlet Maple, Flowering Cherry, and Queen Palm. A Neighborhood Beautification Grant funded the vibrant new community-designed banners.

Valencia Street is a vibrant corridor with restaurants, shops, art galleries, and other establishments that are frequented by thousands of people every day. Public Works and the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) teamed up to create a vision to improve the area with the goal of providing residents and visitors with safe and easy access to businesses, schools, shopping and regional transit connections. A robust envisioning process was undertaken to ensure the participation of the community and incorporation of their feedback into the final plan.

The Richland Avenue Rail Replacement Project is completed.  The bridge is re-opened! 

Hundreds of neighbors celebrated the reopening of Palega Playground and Recreation Center on Nov. 16, 2013. Located on Felton Street in the Portola neighborhood, families cheered the restoration of this 80-year old, five acre complex, which includes new playground equipment; a renovated recreation building that houses a gymnasium, several multi-purpose rooms, kitchen, staff offices, storage and restrooms; basketball and tennis courts; and new soccer, baseball and softball fields.
