"Hairball" Widening & Regrade Project, Segments F/G
Project Description
San Francisco Public Works, in partnership with the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) and the San Francisco County Transportation Authority, is undertaking improvements to the bike and pedestrian pathway in the area known as the “Hairball”—a complex network of bridges and ramps connecting to Highway 101 at the intersection of Cesar Chavez Street, Bayshore Boulevard, and Potrero Avenue.
During construction, the pathway will be closed to the public. Detour signage will be installed to guide pedestrians and cyclists along alternate routes. Additionally, the Peralta/Cesar Chavez stairway will be closed for the duration of the project. Advance notice and signage will be posted at the top of the staircase. No project-related street parking restrictions are anticipated on Peralta or Hallday Avenues, or on surrounding streets near the top of the stairs.
Scope of Work
Widening and rebuilding the existing bicycle pathway from 6 feet to 10 feet
Regrading and lowering the path to create a more gradual downslope and ensure adequate height clearance for pedestrians and cyclists
Installing a new landscaped buffer to enhance safety and aesthetics
Bike reroute during construction:
