FRESH LOOK FOR POPULAR FISHERMAN’S WHARF CORRIDOR

Mayor, City officials and community and business leaders to mark Grand Opening 

of new Jefferson Street streetscape featuring a beautiful new roadway and wider sidewalks

SAN FRANCISCO, CA –Mayor Ed Lee, Board of Supervisors President David Chiu, representatives from City departments and Fisherman’s Wharf community and business leaders will celebrate the official opening Thursday of a new and improved Jefferson Street in the heart of a dynamic waterfront corridor visited by 10 million people a year.

Two blocks of Jefferson Street, from Jones to Hyde streets, have been improved over the past six months with streetscape and pedestrian-safety enhancements for one of the most important business and tourist corridors in the City: Fisherman’s Wharf. The makeover creates twice as much sidewalk space, a two-way traffic configuration to accommodate bicyclists and ease traffic congestion, new lighting, crosswalk bulb outs for safer crossings, and a decorative, distinctive roadway.

The community-driven project re-imagines the Jefferson Street corridor and the Fisherman’s Wharf area. Completed in advance of the America’s Cup races and festivities, it adds to the renaissance of the bay-side waterfront in San Francisco.
