San Francisco Public Works has contracted with Esquivel Grading and Paving, Inc. to improve sewer utilities and renovate the roadway at various locations in San Francisco as part of the Various Locations Pavement Renovation and Sewer Replacement Project No. 85 (VL85). We will be performing this work in the Western Addition, Marina, Cow Hollow Laurel Heights, Outer Richmond, Haight Ashbury and Pacific Heights neighborhoods. 

We have inspected the sewer facilities of all the blocks listed below, and will be either re-lining or replacing portions of those that have shown to be wearing down.  Re-lining these pipes now will prevent possible collapse of the sewer mains and pavement in the future. Sewer service will not be interrupted during the construction.  

This project will include

 sewer main re-lining, curb ramp installation, street base repairs and repaving. Work hours will vary by location, however, typical working hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Weekend work is allowed but has not been scheduled at this time.

Street resurfacing work will be taking place on the following blocks. Those in bold will be receiving sewer lining work. Those that are both bold and underlined will be receiving a sewer main replacement, which requires more extensive excavation and longer work duration.

Construction Updates

July 23, 2026: Construction Start on Octavia Street and Locust Street Pushed to Early August

Due to unforeseen scheduling issues, our work on Octavia Street and Locust Street (described in the July 16th update), has been postponed from its original start date of Monday, July 27th.

The new start dates are as follows:

• Locust Street: Monday, August 10th
• Octavia Street: Monday, August 10th

All other aspects of the construction at these two locations (duration, sequencing, construction-related impacts) remain the same. 

July 16, 2026: Construction Starting on Octavia Street and Locust Street on Monday, July 27th

On Monday, July 27th, we'll be starting construction at two locations: Octavia Street between Lombard Street and Greenwich Street, and Locust Street between Clay Street and Sacramento Street.

Octavia Street: We will first be constructing eight new, ADA-compliant curb ramps at the Octavia and Greenwich intersection. This work includes some small-scale sidewalk and roadway construction in the areas surrounding the curb ramps as well. We expect this work to take roughly 3-4 weeks to complete. During construction, street parking will be limited in the area immediately surrounding these curb ramps, but there will be no roadway closures, and pedestrian access to the sidewalk will be maintained. After all eight curb ramps are constructed, we will be re-paving this block, including the Octavia and Greenwich intersection.

Locust Street: We will first be replacing a portion of the block's sewer main, from the Clay Street intersection to roughly halfway down the block toward Sacramento Street. After the sewer main is replaced, we will inspect all of the sewer laterals on this block and replace them as needed. In total, we expect this work to take 3 weeks to complete. Vehicle traffic will be allowed along Locust, Clay and Sacramento Streets in its normal fashion, and pedestrian access to all buildings in the area will be maintained at all times. Street parking will be prohibited on this block during sewer main replacement work. Shortly after this sewer work is completed, our contractor will be re-paving this block, including the Clay Street intersection.
