City and SF Connect Launch Green Connect

Volunteers to plant 50 trees and cleanup parks throughout North Beach

San Francisco, Ca - More than 200 community volunteers will join community based and city agencies on Saturday, August 19, 2006 at 9:00 a.m. to launch Green Connect, a program dedicated to improving the environment through volunteer efforts.

Volunteers will plant 50 trees throughout North Beach, clear out vacant lots and clean and green parks in the neighborhood. This is the first of many Community Impact Days that Green Connect will partner with the Mayor's Office, the Department of Public Works, Recreation and Park Department, Clean City Coalition, Hands on Bay Area, the Volunteer Center, SF Environment and others to make San Francisco a cleaner, greener place to live and grow.

Volunteers will meet at Joe DiMaggio Playground at Lombard and Powell streets to launch Green Connect, a program of SF Connect, which is a unique nonprofit organization committed to linking volunteers to a diverse array of projects within San Francisco. The four pillars within SF Connect are Homeless, Green, Tech and Youth. SF Connect builds on the success of Project Homeless Connect which has engaged 18,000 volunteers providing services and housing to homeless San Franciscans. Visit www.sfconnect.org to learn more and to sign up as a volunteer.
