DPW Operations’ Crews Work Hard Before, During and After the Storms

When storms come, DPW Operations' staff is always on the frontline, before, during and after. BSSR crews worked on the Columbus Day holiday to procure and hand out more than 1,000 sand bags to help San Francisco residents prepare for the storm expected coming on the next day. BSES staff assisted in distributing the bags to the residents, but the supply was exhausted by noon. An emergency purchase of another 1,000 bags was made and staff filled empty bags with sand from the Lower Yard to make them ready for pickup.

BUF tree and landscape crews responded to over 350 calls due to the heavy rain and high wind that hit the City on October 13. BUF crews removed fallen trees, fallen tree limbs and assisted in clearing catch basins. The crew continued to clear up storm remnants after the storm. Check out this greattime lapse photography of BUF in action, sent to DPW by a resident.

BSSR brick repair crews responded to a flooded intersection at 26th Avenue at Cabrillo. With the help of PUC's catch basin vactor, the drain pipe of the catch basin was blown clean to relieve the catch basin. BSSR crews also closed off Hunters Point Expressway at Candlestick Park and the Great Highway due to flooding and a high tide.

Thanks to DPW Operations for helping minimize disruption of public's daily life caused by mother nature. Great Job!
