SAN FRANCISCO, CA – Construction crews are repaving Franklin Street between California and Union streets – work that is expected to result in delayed travel time along the busy northbound arterial.
The repaving work is one of the last phases of work on Franklin Street and requires the placement of more than 6,000 tons of new asphalt, covering more than 500,000 square feet.
Repaving work on Franklin Street will last through the end of May, with work scheduled Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. No work has been scheduled over the Memorial Day weekend.
Motorists using Franklin Street should allow additional travel time during construction hours and are encouraged to use alternate routes, when possible.
The paving follows major infrastructure improvements on Franklin Street between Page and Francisco streets that included water main and sewer main replacement along several blocks, construction of more than 140 curb ramps to improve accessibility and street-base repairs along 46 blocks.
The street upgrades, overseen by San Francisco Public Works, are funded through the voter-approved 2011 Road Repaving and Street Safety Bond -- a $248 million investment that funds repaving and roadway reconstruction, pedestrian and bike safety improvements, new curb ramps and traffic signal upgrades.
