San Francisco, CA – A public ribbon-cutting celebration will be held on April 16, 2015 to mark the Grand Opening of the new state-of-the-art Police Headquarters and Public Safety Building campus in the Mission Bay neighborhood.

What: Grand Opening of San Francisco’s new Police Headquarters and Public Safety Building campus

When: Thursday, April 16, 11 a.m.

Where: Third Street and Mission Rock Street (1245 Third Street)

Who: Mayor Ed Lee, Board of Supervisors President London Breed, Police Chief Greg Suhr, Fire Chief Joanne Hayes-White, Public Works Director Mohammed Nuru, San Francisco Cultural Affairs Director Tom DeCaigny, and neighbors

The $243 million project was funded by the 2010 Earthquake Safety and Emergency Response (ESER) bond, which City voters approved with 79 percent support. ESER 2010 began efforts to seismically reinforce the City’s firehouses and emergency firefighting water system and to construct the new Public Safety Building.

In June 2014, San Francisco voters passed a new ESER bond to continue the important work with seismic upgrades to neighborhood fire houses and district police stations, repairs and upgrades to the City’s emergency firefighting water system, and the relocation of the motorcycle police, crime lab and medical examiner.

Construction of the Public Safety Building campus began in October 2011. The facility includes San Francisco Police Department headquarters with more than 250 uniformed and civilian employees, Southern District Police Station, Fire Station No. 4, Arson Task Force and a community meeting space.
