San Francisco, CA – Hundreds of volunteers are expected to join Mayor Ed Lee, District 1 Supervisor Eric Mar and Public Works’ crews on Saturday to spruce up the Outer Richmond neighborhood – from planting the Geary Boulevard median to removing graffiti at Sutro Heights Park.
Volunteers also will be refreshing the street furniture on Geary, Balboa and Clement streets and spiffing up Lincoln Park Playground and the Presidio Middle School campus.
The event marks the fifth monthly work day in the 15th-anniversary season of Community Clean Team, Public Works’ largest and longest-running volunteer program that greens, cleans and beautifies San Francisco neighborhoods.
The day will start at 9 a.m. Saturday, with the kickoff at Presidio Middle School, 450-30th Ave. From there, volunteers will head to their work sites where they’ll grab shovels, paint rollers and brooms and get to work taking care of their community with their neighbors, friends and family.
Since 2000, the program has logged more than 148,000 volunteer hours, added more than 30,000 plants to public spaces, and painted over more than 3 million square feet of graffiti. Community Clean Team is a fun and meaningful opportunity to show pride in San Francisco and build community.
