San Francisco Public Utilities Commission Headquarters

In May, the American Institute of Architects (AIA), San Francisco chapter, recognized Public Works with two awards for its project at 525 Golden Gate Avenue; the new home of the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission. The project won for its ‘Integrated Project Delivery’ a best practice that results in improved coordination and a timely delivery. We managed the design and construction of a new 13-story office building that will serve as the new headquarters for the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC). In addition to project management services, We provided construction management oversight including inspection and testing services utilizing our very own materials testing laboratory. The new 277,000-square-foot building located at 525 Golden Gate Avenue is slated to achieve a LEED Platinum rating from the United States Green Building Council (USGBC). Key sustainability features include on-site clean energy generation through photo voltaic; 100 percent of waste water treated on site; use of lowflow toilets; 45 percent daylight harvesting; and the consumption of 55 percent less energy and a 32 percent less electricity demand from the main power grid. The building will utilize an innovative structural system with post tensioned (flexural) cores that will provide the highest asset preservation for the building.
