NEW SEASON OF LOVE OUR CITY: NEIGHBORHOOD BEAUTIFICATION DAY KICKS OFF ON SATURDAY

More Than 100 Community Volunteers Set to Join San Francisco Public Works Crews

to Green and Clean the Western Addition, Tenderloin and Hayes Valley Neighborhoods

SAN FRANCISCO — This Saturday, San Francisco Public Works kicks off the 2026 season of Love Our City: Neighborhood Beautification Day — the department’s largest and longest-running volunteer program focused on greening and cleaning projects that create more welcoming public spaces and bolster community pride.

The Jan. 10 event will focus on Hayes Valley, the Tenderloin, Western Addition and other neighborhoods in District 5.

More than 100 volunteers of all ages will work alongside Public Works urban forestry and street cleaning crews to plant trees, spruce up a schoolyard garden, wipe out graffiti and more.

Mayor Daniel Lurie and District 5 Supervisor Bilal Mahmood have been invited to help Public Works launch the new season.

WHEN: Saturday, Jan. 10, 2026, 9 a.m.

WHERE: Kickoff at Civic Center Secondary School playground, 650 McAllister St.

After the speaking program, participants will head out in teams to work sites. Among them: planting street trees on the 400 block of Octavia Street, repainting the red lampposts on Larkin Street in Little Saigon and weeding and mulching the schoolyard garden at Civic Center Secondary School.

Love Our City: Neighborhood Beautification Day is a volunteer opportunity that rotates through a different supervisorial district every month, January through November.

Since 2000, community volunteers participating in the monthly workday collectively have logged more than 80,000 hours to improve our diverse neighborhoods. Working alongside Public Works staff, they have added more than 34,000 plants to public spaces, painted over more than 3.6 million square feet of graffiti, planted thousands of street trees, picked up tons of litter and more.
