Regarding: Hardcopy submittals to SF Public Works, Surveys and Mapping.
Public access to our office is extremely limited during this time of precautions put in place due to COVID-19. To the greatest extent possible in the interest of safety and your own convenience, please avoid dropping off hardcopy materials to our office. Send all hardcopy materials via postal mail or other parcel delivery service to the following address:
Public Works Bureau of Street-Use and Mapping 49 South Van Ness Avenue, Suite 300 Attn: 9th Floor, Subdivision and Mapping San Francisco, CA 94103
If for any reason you must drop off your hardcopy materials, please do so at the following location and hours:
49 South Van Ness Avenue, 1st floor lobby. Monday through Friday, 9:30 AM – 3:30 PM.
An unattended drop-box is available at the permit center check-in desk. No receipt is available. You may have to stand in line for 15 minutes or more as entrance to the building is limited. Please plan accordingly. We request that you email to inform us you have dropped off specific materials at subdivision.mapping@sfdpw.org.
Due to nonuse, mapping staff has discontinued attended dropoff services. Please continue to use the unattended dropoff box available at the permit center check-in desk.
You are welcome to inquire with us should you have any questions with regard to mailing of submittals, or drop-off procedures. Please send email to: subdivision.mapping@sfdpw.org.
Effective January 1, 2018 California State Senate Bill 2 (SB 2 - Atkins) is in effect and there is a mandated state fee added to the base recording fees charged to record a document. Each document set, including maps, submitted to the Public Works mapping department for recordation requires a fee of $75 per resultant APN in each real property document to be recorded, not to exceed a maximum SB2 fee of $225 per document. Again, this is in addition to the base recording fee.
This applies to all current and future project applications. Please visit the Recording Fee website of the Office of the Assessor-Recorder for more information.
To increase efficiency and reduce paper consumption, the Office of the City and County Surveyor requires that all project applications be submitted electronically.*
Paper applications will be returned to project applicants.
As our applications are currently being updated, disregard application language which calls for paper submittal.
Please use the most updated application from our website; if an older version of the application is used it will be sent back to the applicant.
Applications must be entirely complete or they will be rejected.
Application re-submittals are subject to an additional $250.00 administrative fee.
Electronic file size submittal in any one email is limited to 20 megabytes. File Sharing services, multiple emails, or compressed files may be used.
Digital media is accepted by post or messenger delivery.
Submit each application document as a separate PDF file. Do not bundle multiple documents into one PDF.
Document file naming convention should reflect the name of the document as found in the application checklist.
Note: All documents requiring notarized signature must be submitted in both electronic and original hardcopy format.
All checks that are submitted to Public Works Mapping Department are required to be submitted with an Assessor Parcel Number (APN) and subject property address written on the face of the check. If a check is submitted without the APN and property address then the submittal will be considered incomplete and subject to an additional $250 fee for re-submittal.
It is the policy of Public Works Mapping Department that every project has a single point of contact. All correspondence with Public Works Mapping Department must come through the Project Surveyor.
Sample Pictures for Application - Acceptable sample pictures. Note that Google Street View screenshots or similar street-level image sources may be accetpable if they reflect current conditions.
Assessor's Parcel Numbers are required on all Mylar submittals. We do not require complete condominium plans, only the numbers to verify with the Assessor's Office.
If the package received by our office is reviewed and deemed incomplete, you will be assessed a $250 fee for additional review cost.
