Community Groups And City Crew Team Up To

Spruce Up Chinatown, North Beach And Polk Street


 


San Francisco, Ca – More than 250 volunteers from neighborhood groups, community organizations, schools, merchants and residents will join the District Three Community Clean Team on Saturday, October 18, 2008 at 9 AM at Portsmouth Square at Kearny and Clay Streets to kick off the month-long cleanup events in the District to make sure the streets, parks, schools, housing developments and neighborhoods are clean, green and graffiti free.

Volunteers will focus on the district's distinctive alleyways, paint out graffiti; plant trees, clean planter boxes, and paint playground structures; weed, chip and paint at housing developments; paint benches and work on gardening projects in the school; and pick up litter on major streets in Chinatown and North Beach.

The Community Clean Team is led by the Department of Public Works in partnership with SF Connect, the Recreation and Park Department, Norcal Waste Systems, and community groups including Chinatown Community Development Center, Chinese Chamber of Commerce, and Middle Polk Neighborhood Association to beautify San Francisco, one neighborhood at a time.

Golden Gate Disposal & Recycling Company is providing free bulky item and recycling drop off for residents of District 3 only on Saturday morning from 8 am to 12 noon. Proof of residency in District 3 will be required.
