Project Description
San Francisco Public Works and the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission have partnered to complete infrastructure improvements on several blocks in the Sunset, Forest Hill, and Twin Peaks neighborhoods. Our partnership allows us to minimize impacts to the public by consolidating our work whenever possible. This project will include sewer main replacement (some blocks), curb ramp installation, street base repairs, grinding (removal of existing asphalt) and repaving. Work hours may vary by location, however typical working hours are 7:30 AM to 5 PM, Monday through Friday. Weekend work is allowed but has not been scheduled at this time. Construction is anticipated to start at the first location in January 2022 with completion expected at the last location in late May 2023. San Francisco Public Works will manage the project during construction. We’ve hired D’Arcy & Harty Construction, Inc., to perform the work.

The blocks scheduled to be repaved/reconstructed under this contract are listed below.

Dewey Blvd – Laguna Honda Blvd to Dewey Circle

NOTE: For residents on Saint Germain Street: The scope of work on this block will include demolishing, removing, and repouring the concrete street along the southern half of the block. The northern half is in good condition at this time. Neighbors living along the southern half of the block will not have driveway access for several days while the concrete road is removed, replaced, and allowed to properly cure. We’ll coordinate with neighbors once we schedule the work. Sidewalks will remain open at all times.

Sewer Work
The first phase of work on a block will be the sewer main replacement. Not all blocks will include sewer work. Once the sewer main has been installed, our engineers will review video of the sewer laterals to determine which, if any, need to be replaced. The sewer laterals are the connection between the main and the curb/sidewalk. Note: Sewer laterals are only replaced on an as-needed depending on the condition of the existing line. Sewer service will not be interrupted during construction. Please continue to use your household and business plumbing as usual. The blocks scheduled for sewer work are as follow:

15th Avenue – Santiago Street to Taraval Street
17th Avenue – Lawton Street to Moraga Street
17th Avenue – Noriega Street to Quintara Street
17th Avenue – Santiago Street to Ulloa Street
18th Avenue – Judah Street to Noriega Street
Lenox Way – Taraval Street to Ulloa Street
Madrone Street – Ulloa Street to Taraval Street
Noriega Street – 18th Avenue to 17th Avenue
Juanita Way and Fowler Avenue intersection
Wawona Street and Ulloa Street intersection

Once sewer work is complete on a block, crews will begin preparations to repave the block. Preparations may include installation of ADA curb ramps and concrete street base replacement work. Street base replacement work will require the contractor saw-cut, excavate the broken concrete, and pour fresh cement. This may happen at several locations along any given block. Replacing any damaged/broken street base now will help enhance the durability of the new pavement.
