Project Overview

 

San Francisco Public Works is pleased to announce the VL 70 Pavement Renovation Project, a citywide effort to improve the safety, accessibility, and overall condition of neighborhood streets.

 

Through a contract with Ronan Construction, Inc., Public Works will deliver coordinated pavement and accessibility improvements while working to minimize disruptions to residents, businesses, and visitors.

 

By consolidating construction activities whenever possible, this project is designed to reduce repeated impacts to the public while efficiently completing critical infrastructure upgrades.

Current Construction Update

 

Construction activity is actively underway at several locations:

 

  • Curb ramp work has begun at:
    • Harrison Street — Precita Avenue to Norwich Street
    • Norwich Street — Alabama Street to End

 

  • Street base work is currently in progress at:
    • Duboce Avenue — Market Street to Valencia Street

 

  • Upcoming Work:
    • Construction is scheduled to begin the week of March 30, 2026 at:
      • Peralta Avenue — Ripley Street to Esmeralda Avenue
    • Work at this location is expected to last up to three (3) weeks, weather and site conditions permitting

       

Additional updates will be provided as work progresses to new locations.

Scope of Work

 

The VL 70 Pavement Renovation Project includes a range of street and sidewalk improvements designed to enhance accessibility and extend the lifespan of San Francisco’s roadway network.

 

Planned work may include:

  • Installation and upgrade of ADA-compliant curb ramps
  • Street base repairs where underlying pavement has deteriorated
  • Full roadway repaving to improve conditions for driving, biking, and walking

     

Construction activities and specific work elements will vary by location depending on existing site conditions.

Construction Schedule

 

Construction began in late January 2026 and is anticipated to take approximately nine months to complete.

 

Typical construction hours are: Monday – Friday: 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

 

Weekend work is permitted under the contract but is not currently scheduled.

 

Work hours may vary by location, and additional details will be shared in advance of construction at each site.

  • Caledonia Street — 16th Street to End
  • Lexington Street — Sycamore Street to 18th Street
  • Mistral Street — Treat Avenue to Harrison Street
  • Cunningham Place — Valencia Street to End
  • Capp Street — 20th Street to 21st Street
  • Capp Street — 25th Street to 26th Street
  • Cypress Street — 25th Street to 26th Street
  • Harrison Street — Precita Avenue to Norwich Street
  • Norwich Street — Alabama Street to End
  • Alabama Street — Norwich Street to Rutledge Street
  • Peralta Avenue — Ripley Street to Esmeralda Avenue
  • Somerset Street — Peralta Avenue to Franconia Street
  • Mullen Avenue — Brewster Street to Martin Avenue
  • Ellsworth Street — Tompkins Avenue to Jarboe Avenue

Maps, phasing details, and block-specific schedules will be provided as the project progresses.

Traffic, Parking, and Access Impacts

 

During construction, temporary traffic and access impacts are expected. San Francisco Public Works and the construction team will work to maintain safe and efficient movement throughout the project.

Key Information for Residents and Travelers

 

  • Streets will be posted at least 72 hours in advance with “No Parking / Tow Away” signage
  • Vehicles parked in posted areas during work hours may be towed at the owner’s expense
  • Driveway access will be maintained, though brief delays may occur
  • Sidewalk access will remain open and accessible at all times
  • Travelers are encouraged to plan ahead and allow extra travel time

     

Please follow posted signage and directions from construction personnel for your safety and the safety of others.
