"Hairball" Widening & Regrade Project, Segments F/G
Project Description
San Francisco Public Works is working with the SFMTA and the San Francisco County Transportation Authority to make necessary improvements to the bike and pedestrian path in an area called the "Hairball," a complex arrangement of bridges and ramps linking to Highway 101 at the intersection of Cesar Chavez Street, Bayshore Boulevard and Potrero Avenue. During construction, the pathway will not be accessible. Signs will be installed to direct the public to suggested reroutes. Also, the Peralta/C. Chavez stairway will be closed for the duration of the work. Signs will be placed at the top of the staircase in advance of the closures. We do not anticipate any project-related street parking restrictions on Peralta and Hallday Avenues or the surrounding streets near the top of the stairs.
The project will include the following scope of work:
- Widening and rebuilding the bicycle pathway from 6 feet to 10 feet.
- Lowering and re-grading the pathway to create a more gradual downslope and sufficient height clearance for pedestrians and bicyclists.
- Installation of a new landscaped buffer.
Bike reroute during construction:
San Francisco Public Works, San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency and the San Francisco County Transportation Authority
