Various Locations Pavement Renovation No. 78 and Sewer Replacement Project

San Francisco Public Works has contracted with Ronan Construction, Inc. to deliver the Various Locations Pavement Renovation No. 78 and Sewer Replacement Project, a neighborhood infrastructure improvement effort that will upgrade aging street and underground facilities at multiple locations throughout San Francisco.

This project is part of the City’s ongoing commitment to maintaining safe, accessible, and reliable public infrastructure. Planned improvements will address roadway and pedestrian conditions while replacing sewer facilities and related assets that are nearing the end of their useful service life.

Project Overview

The project will include a range of street and utility improvements designed to enhance safety, accessibility, and overall roadway conditions. Work may include:

  • Sewer replacement an- d related underground utility improvements
  • Street repaving
  • New curbs and sidewalks
  • Upgraded curb ramps to improve accessibility
  • Traffic island improvements
  • Bud pad replacements at selected locations

These improvements are intended to extend the life of critical infrastructure, improve the condition of public streets, and support safer travel for pedestrians, transit users, cyclists, and motorists.

Anticipated Schedule

Construction is currently anticipated to begin March 30, 2026, with completion expected in March 2027.

Please note that construction schedules are subject to change due to weather, field conditions, coordination with other agencies, and other unforeseen factors.

Work is planned at the following locations:

  • 38th Avenue - Shore View Avenue to Geary Boulevard
  • 34th Avenue - Clement Street to Anza Street
  • Grove Street - Cole Street to Ashbury Street
  • Grove Street - Lyon Street to Baker Street

  • Buchanan Street - Hermann Street to Duboce Avenue/Market Street

Construction activities may move between locations in phases rather than occurring at all sites at the same time.

Workdays and Hours

Regular construction activities are expected to take place:

Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Some work may need to be adjusted based on site conditions, operational needs, or coordination requirements.

What to Expect During Construction

Residents, businesses, and travelers near the work areas should expect temporary construction-related impacts during active work. These may include:

  • Construction noise, vibration, and dust
  • Temporary traffic delays near active work zones
  • Temporary loss of some street parking
  • Lane shifts or localized traffic control
  • Intermittent access adjustments in immediate work areas

Public Works and the contractor will work to minimize disruption as much as possible while maintaining safe construction operations.

Pedestrian Access and Sewer Service

Sidewalk access will remain open at all times, except for brief and localized closures when necessary to safely complete specific work activities. When temporary sidewalk detours are needed, clear signage and accessible routing will be provided.

Sewer service is not expected to be interrupted during construction.

Construction Activity and Periods of Inactivity

Construction often occurs in stages, and some locations may experience short periods of inactivity between phases of work. These pauses may occur due to curing time, inspections, utility coordination, scheduling, weather, or other project-related needs. Even when visible activity is limited, the project may still be progressing through required construction or coordination steps.

Project Purpose

Many of the streets, sidewalks, curb ramps, sewer facilities, and transit-related features included in this project are approaching or have reached the end of their useful life. Replacing and improving these assets now helps reduce the likelihood of future failures, improves accessibility and safety, and preserves the condition of public infrastructure for years to come.

San Francisco Public Works appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation during construction and is committed to keeping the community informed throughout the life of the project.
