Minna Natoma Streetscape Project
Project Update (May 28, 2026)
Project Status
The Minna–Natoma Streetscape Project continues to make steady progress.
As of May 28, 2026, the construction team has successfully completed sewer improvement work along Natoma Street. This marks a major milestone in the project and helps pave the way for upcoming roadway and streetscape improvements.
San Francisco Public Works would like to extend a sincere thank you to the teams at the W Hotel, SFMOMA, St.Regis Hotel and 140 New Montgomery for their exceptional coordination, flexibility, and partnership throughout this phase of construction. Their collaboration played a critical role in helping this work move forward safely and efficiently while maintaining access and operations whenever feasible.
Upcoming Construction Activities
Beginning June 1, 2026, crews will perform work on the catch basin located at the intersection of 3rd Street and Minna Street, adjacent to the St. Regis Hotel.
During this work:
- Passenger vehicle access will be maintained where feasible
- Buses and large vans will be temporarily rerouted around the active construction area
Traffic control personnel and signage will be in place to help safely guide vehicles and pedestrians through the area
Public Works and the construction team are committed to minimizing impacts while safely advancing construction activities.
Project Overview
The Minna–Natoma Streetscape Project is designed to transform Minna Street and Natoma Street into safer, more accessible, and vibrant pedestrian corridors connecting the Transbay Transit Center and Yerba Buena Gardens.
Key improvements include:
- Widened sidewalks to improve pedestrian comfort and accessibility
- Raised crosswalks to enhance pedestrian safety
- New traffic signals and crossings to improve mobility and visibility
Roadway reconstruction for a smoother and more reliable travel surface
Additional enhancements will include:
- Public art installations
- Enhanced street lighting
- New street furniture
- Landscaping and greening elements
Decorative and patterned pavement features
Together, these improvements will create a more inviting, functional, and visually engaging streetscape that reflects the character of the surrounding neighborhood.
Construction Background
Construction on the project originally began in July 2025 and is being delivered by Bauman Landscape and Construction, LLC. Following a temporary pause to allow for a comprehensive redesign, active construction resumed in April 2026 under an updated schedule.
