CITY & STARBUCKS TEAM UP FOR ONE OF THE LARGEST VOLUNTEER EVENTS IN HISTORY 

More than 1,600 volunteers to clean and green San Francisco’s 11 districts for

Global Day of Service

 

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – In partnership with the Department of Public Works (DPW), Starbucks Coffee Company will hold its second annual Global Day of Service on Saturday, April 28, 2012, from 8am-12pm. Starbucks has enlisted over 1,600 volunteers to complete projects in eleven neighborhoods across the city that include planting, graffiti removal, and other cleaning and greening activities in some of San Francisco's most iconic areas and community gathering spaces.

DPW worked closely with Starbucks to provide logistical support by scouting locations in need of care and maintenance, and equipment and support staff to tackle the extensive work scope. The San Francisco event will be the Starbucks’s largest one-day event ever in the world and the largest volunteer event coordinated in DPW’s history.

WHO: Mayor Edwin M. Lee, Starbucks Coffee Company, Department of Public Works, other notables and elected officials and over 1,600 volunteers

WHAT: Starbucks Global Day of Service

WHEN: Saturday, April 28, 2012; 8:00am-12:00pm, Program begins at 8:15 am

WHERE: Kick-off event at San Francisco City Hall, at front entrance on Polk Street side.

Volunteers will be working at:

District 1 - Geary from 7th to Funston;

District 2 - Van Ness Ave from Pacific Street to Union Street;

District 3 - Sansome & Filbert, & Greenwich Stairs;

District 4 - 48th & Taraval and the Promenade along Great Highway;

District 5 - Fillmore between Geary & Turk Streets;

District 6 - Market Street - Embarcadero to 13th Street;

District 7 - Projects along Junipero Serra & Rossmore;

District 8 - Projects along San Jose Avenue;

District 9 - Mayor’s Lavender Garden near Mission & Appleton;

District 10 - Projects along Vermont Street; and

District 11 - Pink Bridge at Chester Street & Alemany
