City Announces plans for Arbor day and clean team volunteer celebration
Tree plantings, eco-fair, family activities scheduled as City’s Community Clean Team celebrates ten years of service
SAN FRANCISCO, CA – On March 6th, 2010 at 9am, the Department of Public Works and the Community Clean Team will launch the year’s premiere volunteer cleaning and greening events and celebrate its 10-year anniversary with a kickoff event complete with music, gardening projects and children’s activities. Hundreds of volunteers have signed up for the event at Alemany Farm that includes a week’s worth of greening activities around the City, and will be a part of the City's 2010 Arbor Day celebration.
As a part of the Mayor’s commitment to increasing the amount of healthy and sustainable food in the City, volunteers will be planting fruit trees, an orchard, and participating in gardening projects around Alemany Farm, Holly Court, various San Francisco Public Housing Developments, Brotherhood Way, and at schools and neighborhoods throughout Districts 9 and 11. Activities also include removing weeds and graffiti, picking up litter. Entertainment, such as face painting, planter box building, a goat petting station, live music, and other family friendly activities to celebrate trees and community service will be provided.
The Community Clean Team is a citywide volunteer program that partners city agencies with residents, merchants and students to clean and beautify San Francisco neighborhoods. More information can be found at the Community Clean Team’s webpage and photos and updates at facebook.com/sfdpw and twitter.com/sfdpw.
