Department of Public Works Offers $500 Reward for Information Leading to Illegal Dumping Arrest and Conviction

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – The Department of Public Works (DPW) is offering a $500 reward for information that will lead to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for illegally dumping toxic roofing material on Arelious Walker Drive at Egbert Street near Gilman Playground in San Francisco’s Bayview neighborhood between midnight and 6:00 a.m. Thursday, September 23, 2010.

“We are asking for anyone in San Francisco or in a nearby city who had their roof removed most likely on Tuesday (September 21st) or Wednesday (September 22nd) to contact us if they suspect their contractor did not dispose of the debris properly or if you witnessed this incident,” said Mohammed Nuru, Deputy Director of Operations at DPW.

The reward offer was made just a day before hundreds of volunteers will gather in the Bayview to clean up the entire neighborhood for Coastal Clean Up.

Anyone with information can call (415) 695-2003 or email dpw@sfdpw.org.

DPW is responsible for the care and maintenance of San Francisco’s streets and much of its infrastructure. The department cleans and resurfaces streets; plants and maintains City street trees; designs, constructs and maintains city-owned facilities; inspects streets and sidewalks; constructs curb ramps; removes graffiti from public property; and partners with the diverse neighborhoods in San Francisco to provide stellar cleaning and greening services.
