PUBLIC WORKS GEARS UP FOR THE 99th ANNUAL BAY TO BREAKERS
DPW ENCOURAGES PARTICIPANTS TO KEEP EVENT CLEAN AND SAFE
San Francisco, CA—The Department of Public Work (DPW) is gearing up for the 99th Annual Bay to Breakers this Sunday by filling potholes, performing street and sidewalk safety inspections, and removing graffiti, litter and other debris from the race route.
DPW is encouraging participants and residents along the route to use provided trash and recycling receptacles, remove items like float materials, and keep parties clean and behind the property line.
DPW has been working throughout the week to prepare the area for the race and will begin pre-race cleanup at midnight before the footrace begins and will continue until the route is thoroughly cleaned.
This San Francisco tradition attracts thousands of participants every year and the City is working with organizers to ensure participants have a safe, fun, and enjoyable experience.
“San Francisco is a world class city and we encourage people to clean up after themselves to ensure everyone has a positive experience,” said Mohammed Nuru, DPW Deputy Director for Operations at DPW. “Our goal is to return the city to an acceptable level of cleanliness as soon as possible after the race.”
Post race cleaning efforts will include DPW, the Recreation and Parks Department, San Francisco Police Department, SF Municipal Transportation Agency (MTA), and Recology.
DPW is responsible for the care and maintenance of San Francisco’s streets and much of its infrastructure. The department cleans and resurfaces streets; plants and maintains City street trees; designs, constructs and maintains city-owned facilities; inspects and repairs streets and sidewalks; constructs curb ramps; removes graffiti from public property; and partners with the diverse neighborhoods in San Francisco to provide stellar cleaning and greening services.
