GIANT SWEEP CAMPAIGN ADDS STARBUCKS TO THE TEAM ROSTER

Sip Coffee, Sign the Pledge to Keep San Francisco Clean and Beautiful

San Francisco, CA -- As part of its annual Global Month of Service program, Starbucks Coffee Company has teamed up with San Francisco’s Giant Sweep anti-litter campaign.

During the month of April, Starbucks will showcase Giant Sweep in 70 retail store locations in San Francisco, offering customers the easy convenience of signing the Giant Sweep pledge when they stop by for their favorite beverage.

The pledge, which can be signed online at www.sfgiantsweep.org, asks people to do their part to help keep the City’s sidewalks, parks and buses clean.

“We’re excited to have Starbucks as a partner in the Giant Sweep campaign,” said San Francisco Department of Public Works Director Mohammed Nuru. “Starbucks has stepped up to help spread the word about what we’re hoping to achieve: a litter-free and even more beautiful San Francisco.”

Launched in February by San Francisco Mayor Edwin M. Lee and the World Champion San Francisco Giants, Giant Sweep involves both hands-on activities and public education to engage residents, businesses and schools to create a culture of clean in the City.

On April 27, in one of the biggest Giant Sweep events yet, Starbucks aims to get 1,000-plus volunteers out to work on neighborhood beautification projects as part of its Global Month of Service.

The day will begin at 8:30 a.m. at United Nations Plaza. Volunteers then will head to worksites in seven neighborhoods, including the Excelsior, the Sunset, the Richmond and Mid-Market, to weed medians, paint out graffiti and plant native plants to help beautify the City.

“Starbucks is excited to support the Giant Sweep campaign,” said the company’s Northern California regional vice president, David Chu. “We value the communities we serve, and keeping San Francisco clean and beautiful is important to our customers, the community and our employees.”
