Project Information
The San Francisco Department of Public Works (DPW), Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E), the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC), and the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) partnered together to expedite much needed infrastructure repairs along Mission Street between 16th Street and Cesar Chavez.
In October 2011, PG&E completed work on a gas replacement project along Mission Street between 21st Street to 25th. PG&E installed new modern piping which is more resistant to corrosion and earthquakes. Their work was completed in advance of our paving project which began in March 2012.
Prior to the start of renovation work, Muni rerouted the 14 Mission, the 14L Mission Limited, and the 49 Van Ness from Mission Street on to South Van Ness Avenue. The rerouting was necessary to expedite the work and minimize the impact to area residents or businesses. The temporary bus reroute will remain in place until all repaving work along Mission Street is complete. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. If you would like additional information on the Muni reroute please contact 311 or visit www.sfmta.com.
Once Muni relocated bus service, DPW and the PUC began infrastructure improvements along Mission Street between 16th Street and Cesar Chavez. The PUC replaced the existing water main from 17th to 21st Street. The PUC had additional water main replacement work in the Mission District. For a complete list of those locations please visit the "construction in your neighborhood" section at www.sfwater.org. DPW is repaving Mission Street between 16th Street and Cesar Chavez.
In order to expedite the work and maintain traffic lanes on Mission, street parking will still not be possible while construction occurs on a block. We apologize for this inconvenience and assure you we'll restore street parking as soon as possible. Please see the posted barricade signs for exact work days, hours, and locations, because they may vary depending on the construction task.
Vehicles parked on the street during the posted work hours will be towed at the vehicle owner's expense.
Sidewalk and driveway access will be maintained at all times. However, if crews are working directly in front of your building, they may need some time to create a path of travel for your vehicle. Please allow extra travel time during construction work hours.
