San Francisco Celebrates Arbor Day with Volunteer
Events and Children's Activities
San Francisco, Ca – San Francisco will host a variety of greening events to celebrate Arbor Day 2007. The signature volunteer event will take place on Saturday, March 10th from 9 am to 2 pm at Brotherhood Way and Arch Street. Volunteers will plant more than 100 trees and plant other vegetation along Brotherhood Way. Street tree plantings will also occur in the Sunset and Bayview neighborhoods.
Families are encouraged to participate at the Brotherhood Way event, where the street will be closed off to allow for children's activities that will teach the importance of a robust Urban Forest. Exhibits, workshops and a Green Resource Fair will begin at 10 am to provide information on tree planting and care.
Arbor Day partners include the Department of Public Works, Norcal Waste Systems, Walgreens, Department of Environment, Recreation and Park Department, SF Public Utilities Commission, Mayor's Office of Neighborhood Services, non-profit organizations SF Clean City, SF Connect, San Francisco Parks Trust, Friends of the Urban Forest, Local 261, Auto Desk, the San Francisco Giants, and Students Conserving America.
Volunteers can also go to McCoppin Square, Oceanview Playground, and Willie Brown Academy Garden to help plant a tree. All planting events start at 9 am. For more information, call (415) 552-9201, or log on to www.sfarborday.org.
