EARTH DAY CELEBRATIONS CALL ON VOLUNTEERS

FOR NEIGHBORHOOD CLEANING AND GREENING

Neighbors, community groups, merchants join together to beautify and care for the City

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – The Department of Public Works invites volunteers to celebrate Earth Day with the Community Clean Team on Saturday, April 20 at 9 a.m. District 5 Supervisor London Breed and City work crews are teaming up with volunteers in the heart of San Francisco at the east end Golden Gate Park’s Panhandle to celebrate Earth Day, and then head to surrounding neighborhoods for cleaning and greening activities.

More than 300 people are expected to turn out and lend a hand along the Panhandle, plant and care for trees, work on landscaping and greening projects in the NOPA neighborhood, paint over graffiti along Haight Street, spruce up medians along Webster Street, and sweep up litter in the Fillmore and surrounding neighborhoods.

The event is a part of Giant Sweep, a citywide anti-litter campaign launched this year that partners the City, the World Champion San Francisco Giants, local schools, residents, businesses, and community groups to keep San Francisco clean and beautiful.
