Market Street Roadway Improvements Continue 

Weekend construction at selected Market Street and Third Street intersections; City encouraging motorists to consider alternate routes

San Francisco, CA – Drivers planning to travel along the east end of Market Street this weekend are encouraged to find alternate routes while critical roadway improvements and underground sewer work continue.

Crews from the Department of Public Works, the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission, the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency and the Pacific Gas & Electric Co. will be out this weekend starting at 2 o’clock Saturday morning, performing street and crosswalk upgrades, cleaning and inspecting underground sewers, utility infrastructure work, and Muni railway maintenance and replacements. There will be crews throughout the weekend at Third and Market streets, at the Market Street intersections at Fremont and First streets, and along Third Street at Kearny and Geary streets.

The goal is to complete the project within 48 hours to minimize disruptions along one of San Francisco’s primary transportation corridors. The project will include night work and adjusted Muni schedules into late Sunday, and motorists should expect detours and minor delays. Pedestrians will continue to have access to Market Street sidewalks and curb ramps and be able to cross at the intersections.

This weekend’s work is the newest phase of Market Street Roadway Improvement Program for the corridor east of Van Ness Avenue. Crews have repaved the curb lanes from Van Ness Avenue to Fremont Street. This additional intersection work along Market Street takes care of vital roadway upgrades and preparation work for upcoming Market Street paving projects in the area.

The program is a joint collaboration between City agencies to perform work on the Market Street corridor with a synchronized approach that minimizes overall disruption to the public. Additional coordinated Market Street intersection construction projects are planned for weekends in March.
