MARKET STREET ROADWAY IMPROVEMENTS CONTINUE THIS WEEKEND

WITH OVERNIGHT CONSTRUCTION AT FIVE INTERSECTIONS

Transportation impacts include traffic restrictions and rerouting some Muni lines

San Francisco, CA -- Public Works and contractor A. Ruiz Construction will be performing roadway improvements at five Market Street intersections from Sixth Street to 10th Street this weekend, starting at 11 p.m. Friday. Crews will work around the clock, with the goal of completing the project within 24 hours to minimize disruptions along one of the City’s primary transportation corridors.

Construction is scheduled to begin at 11 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, and end by 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013.

The four-block Market Street construction zone will be closed to traffic – automobiles, taxis, trucks and bikes -- except for limited to access for patrons of the Hotel Whitcomb at 1231 Market St. In addition, there will be restricted vehicle crossings at the intersections during the duration of the construction period. Intersections closure times below.

10th Street intersection 11 p.m. Friday – 6 a.m. Saturday

Sixth Street intersection 2 a.m. – 9 a.m. Saturday

Seventh Street intersection 4 a.m. – 12 noon Saturday

Eighth Street intersection 7 a.m. – 3 p.m. Saturday

Ninth Street intersection 12 noon– 7 p.m. Saturday

Pedestrians still will be able to access Market Street sidewalks and curb-ramps as well as cross at the intersections. Motorists should expect detours and minor delays. Public transit that runs along Market Street between Sixth and 10th streets will be rerouted. A bus will replace Muni’s F-line temporarily. More details on Muni impacts can be found below or by visiting www.sfmta.com or calling 311.

This coordinated project involves Public Works, the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission, which will be performing some sewer upgrades, and the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency. The main work will consist of grinding away the old asphalt in the intersections and laying down 429 tons of new asphalt covering 34,604 sq. ft. Crews then will restripe the new pavement.

The intersection improvements follow the repaving of the curb lanes along Market Street from Van Ness Avenue to Fremont Street earlier in the year in order to improve conditions so that bicyclists, transit riders and the general public experience a much smoother and safer ride.
