MORE MARKET STREET ROADWAY IMPROVEMENTS ON THE WAY

Crews will repave curb lanes from Fourth Street to Sixth Street, July 12-14

San Francisco, CA — The Department of Public Works and contractor A. Ruiz Construction will be repaving Market Street from Fourth Street to Sixth Street this weekend, starting at 7 p.m. Friday, July 12.

The project will improve the curb lanes on Market Street to provide a smoother ride for cyclists and motorists. Crews expect to lay down 673 tons of asphalt covering 53,800 sq ft. of roadway.

The goal is to complete the project within 48 hours to minimize disruptions along one of San Francisco’s primary transportation corridors. The project, which will include night work, is anticipated to be completed by Sunday evening, July 14.

No bikes, automobiles, taxis or trucks be allowed on Market Street between Fourth and Sixth streets, and there will be restricted vehicle crossings at the intersections during construction. Intersections will be closed to motorists intermittently at Mason/Market streets, Fifth /Cyril Magnin streets, and Fourth /Stockton/Ellis streets. The intersection at Sixth and Market streets will remain open to through-traffic.

Motorists should expect detours and minor delays. Pedestrians will continue to have access to Market Street sidewalks and curb ramps and be able to cross at the intersections.

Muni’s F-line and buses and public transit service run by other agencies will continue to operate on Market Street in the center lanes. All boardings and drop-offs will be moved temporarily to the center islands. Muni bus lines crossing Fifth Street will be detoured.

See below for more information on the transit changes, or visit www.sfmta.com or call 311.

This weekend’s work is the third phase of Market Street roadway improvements east of Van Ness Avenue. Crews recently repaved the curb lanes from Van Ness Avenue to Sixth Street and from Fremont Street to Fourth Street. Additional intersection work along Market Street will be completed later this year after the height of the summer tourist season and planned special events.
