Parnassus Pavement Renovation Project
Project Update
Week of August 06, 2012 - DPW's contractor is scheduled to repave another section of Parnassus Avenue this week. The contractor will grind Hillpoint to Stanyan on Monday (8/6) and he'll repave that section of roadway on Tuesday (8/7).
Curb ramp work continues along Parnassus at the Clayton, Stanyan, and Cole intersections.
Project Description
The San Francisco Department of Public Works is scheduled to repave Parnassus Avenue from 5th Avenue to Clayton Street, a main artery serving the University of California Medical Center and adjacent neighborhoods.
DPW will install new curb ramps along Parnassus Avenue at several intersections. The curb ramps will meet ADA guidelines and will ease travel for pedestrians in the area. The curb ramp work will be completed on a 3 block stretch. Sewer main replacement work is also included along sections of Parnassus Avenue. If a block requires sewer replacement work residents on the affected blocks will be notified in advance of the work.
Once the curb ramp work and sewer work has been completed, crews will begin to replace damaged sections of the concrete street base which is located underneath the asphalt roadway. The contractor will saw-cut, excavate, and re-pour new street base prior to repaving a block. Street resurfacing will require the contractor "grind" the existing surface off the roadway. Crews will return a few days after the roadway has been "ground" to repave the block. During repaving driveway access may not be possible for 1-2 hours while crews allow the asphalt enough time to cool down. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your patience during construction.
