PUBLIC WORKS CELEBRATES EARTH DAY 

Community Clean Team and volunteers to beautify and restore areas of District 6

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – The Department of Public Works is inviting residents to volunteer in honor of Earth Day and National Volunteer Month with Community Clean Team, a citywide volunteer program that cleans and greens San Francisco. In celebration of Earth Day, volunteers will work on landscaping and gardening projects, paint over graffiti, restore public spaces and parks, and remove litter in neighborhoods throughout District Six, including the Tenderloin, South of Market and Civic Center areas.

Hundreds of volunteers, Mayor Edwin M. Lee and District 6 Supervisor Jane Kim will be meeting at U.N. Plaza on Saturday, April 21at 9:00am for a kickoff event and will continue to clean and green San Francisco until noon. Lunch and entertainment are also provided for volunteers and the Department of Environment will also be on hand to provide information on sustainable living.

In the spirit of Earth Day, Recology will be donating free compost at Fulton Street and Hyde Street near U.N. Plaza and through DPW’s partnership with the Clean City Coalition. Residents living in Districts 6 will have the opportunity to properly dispose of unwanted household bulky items for FREE at Recology Golden Gate, 900 7th Street.
