PUBLIC WORKS TO CLEAN UP MORE THAN 40 LOCATIONS WITH ILLEGAL POSTINGS

Illegal postings were found on public property in and around neighborhoods in the Mission

San Francisco, Ca –The Department of Public Works (DPW) is putting a call out for the public to report sightings of illegally posted movie posters that are popping up on public furniture, utility poles, vacant storefronts, and trash receptacles throughout the city. City graffiti crews are responding and working to clean up more than 40 wheat-pasted posters and stickers that were plastered in and around the Mission/ Dolores neighborhoods for the new documentary about graffiti and freedom of expression called Vigilante, Vigilante. This abatement comes at the cost of taxpayers. Residents are encouraged to call 311 to report sightings of these posters or stickers.

DPW is carefully documenting each instance of the vandalism to keep track of abatement costs and intends to seek to recover all expenses along with assessing any fines that come with City Code violations. Filmmakers of the documentary are urged to take action immediately and clean up every posting on all public property. Illegal postings are considered urban blight, visual pollution, litter, and defacement of public property according to Public Works Code Section 184. Any person that places, pastes, nails, tacks, paints, or otherwise affixes any sign could be cited as high as $500.00 per incident. More info about proper sign posting in San Francisco can be found at www.sfdpw.org
