PUBLIC WORKS PARTNERS WITH COMMUNITY TO CLEAN NEIGHBORHOOD AS PART OF MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. 

NATIONAL DAY OF SERVICE

DPW mobilizing volunteers to improve the public space

San Francisco, Ca. – On Monday, January 16th, as a part of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service, the Department of Public Works (DPW) will join together with Mayor Lee, the African American Arts and Cultural Complex (AAACC), Hands On Bay Area, and hundreds of San Francisco volunteers to support several citywide cleaning and greening projects.

The day’s projects kick off at the AAACC, 762 Fulton, at 9:00 a.m. Volunteers will sign up and participate in an MLK Day remembrance and participate in brief opening ceremonies. Volunteers for DPW will be transported to the Bernal Heights area for cleaning and greening along San Jose Avenue; which include activities such as weeding, landscaping, removal of green waste, sweeping, and picking up litter. Recology will also provide lunch which will be served at 1:00 p.m.

The MLK Day of Service is a part of President Obama’s national call to service initiative, which calls for Americans to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by donating time to serve their communities. Volunteers can get more information and sign up for the events by emailing volunteer@sfdpw.org.
