PUBLIC WORKS PITCHES IN TO PREPARE FOR NFC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

City crews sprucing up the areas around Candlestick Park before and after Sunday’s 49ers playoff match against the New York Giants

San Francisco, CA – In preparation for Sunday’s championship game between the San Francisco 49ers and the New York Giants, the Department of Public Works (DPW) will be out in full force to clean and spruce up the area around Candlestick Park for thousands of fans and visitors.

Pre-game clean-up plans include litter patrols and broom support to sweep through the neighborhoods. Large ‘packer trucks’ have been called in to collect and haul away any large items from illegal dumping. Graffiti crews will set out on the routes with graffiti abatement equipment to remove any vandalism that is found.

“DPW is committed to ensuring the public right of way is safe and accessible so that every visitor and fan has an enjoyable experience at this championship game.” said Mohammed Nuru, Interim Director of the Department of Public Works.

Along with the clean-ups, DPW pothole crews will survey streets and fill potholes along well traveled routes. Post-game clean-ups are also planned in and around the area in addition to area hotspots around the city. Residents and visitors can call 311 to report litter or graffiti.

DPW is responsible for the care and maintenance of San Francisco’s streets and much of its infrastructure. The department cleans and resurfaces streets; plants and maintains City street trees; designs, constructs and maintains city-owned facilities; inspects streets and sidewalks; constructs curb ramps; removes graffiti from public property; and partners with the diverse neighborhoods in San Francisco to provide stellar cleaning and greening services.
