PUBLIC WORKS & SFMTA TO UNDERGO MAINTENANCE TO BROADWAY TUNNEL
Motorists Advised To Take Alternate Routes As City Repairs Lighting, Cleans, and Re-stripes the Roadway of the Tunnel
SAN FRANCISCO, CA – The Department of Public Works (DPW) and the SF Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) is scheduled to perform routine maintenance of the Broadway Tunnel using special lift equipment that will require lane closures and traffic detours. The work will begin Sunday, July 22 to Saturday August 11, from 10 pm to 6 am during weekdays, where west and eastbound lanes to the Broadway Tunnel will close at alternating times for DPW and MTA to undergo electrical upgrades such as lighting replacements, intense cleaning of the walls and ceilings, and the re-striping of the roadway to ensure continued safe use of the structure.
In order to minimize traffic disruption of this major throughway in San Francisco, the work will be performed late night to early morning hours from 10 pm to 6 am on weekday throughout these dates.
Traffic signage will be stationed at the entrances of the tunnel to alert the public of the detours. Motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians are advised to take detoured routes during work hours and expect minor delays.
