San Francisco Public Works Announces

New Staff to Lead Department's Cleaning and Greening Programs

Announcement made during National Public Works Week


San Francisco, Ca –The San Francisco Department of Public Works (DPW) announced today that three key positions have been filled in its Operations Division, which oversees the city's road repair, street cleaning and greening efforts.

James Armstrong is appointed to lead the department's Bureau of Street Environmental Services as Superintendent. Mr. Armstrong has more than 22 years experience working for the City and a vast knowledge of the City's street cleaning operational needs. Mr. Armstrong began his career as a truck driver for DPW and was most recently the bureau's rotating superintendent.

Paul Sacamano has been appointed to be Superintendent of the Bureau of Urban Forestry. He is charged with coordinating the department's role in the implementation of Mayor Newsom's greening initiative to plant 25,000 trees in five years in addition to beautifying and maintaining the City's medians. Mr. Sacamano joined DPW in 1999 as an Urban Forester.

Larry Stringer has been appointed to lead the Bureau of Street and Sewer Repair, where he will oversee the department's efforts to keep San Francisco's roads in good repair. The bureau fills potholes, paves trenches, conducts emergency sewer repair and operates its own Asphalt Plant, which produced more than 26,000 tons of hot asphalt this year for road repair projects. Mr. Stringer comes to DPW from CalTrans with 15 years experience in roadwork. He joined the City in February 2005 as an Assistant Superintendent.
