Chinatown Night Construction Begins This Weekend
San Francisco, Ca – Stockton-Grant Renovation Project will start the street and sidewalk construction in Chinatown on Sunday night, August 5th, 2007. All the work will be performed at night to minimize construction impacts to MUNI operations and the business community.
The project includes renovation of sewer mains, curb ramps, concrete street base and asphalt pavement on eight blocks of Stockton Street, between the Stockton Street Tunnel and Columbus Avenue.
Starting August 5th, DPW's contractor will dispatch three construction crews to Chinatown. One crew will reconstruct Stockton Street's base and pavement starting at Columbus Avenue and working toward the Stockton Tunnel entrance. A second crew will install a new sewer main on Stockton a half block in each direction from the Sacramento intersection, and mortar two blocks of the sewer main from Jackson to Clay streets. A third crew will install new curb ramps.
The contractor began the project in early July on Stockton Street and Grant Avenue around Union Square and completion in this area is expected by the week of August 20th, respectively, including a freshly paved asphalt surface. Stockton Street Tunnel was paved Wednesday night, August 1st.
The entire project is anticipated to be complete by the end of 2007. The construction budget is $5.3 million
