San Francisco Public Works hired Hernandez Engineering to complete the Fern Street West Improvements Project. The project limits were Fern Street between Polk Street and Van Ness Avenue. Construction began in April 2022 and was completed in October 2022.

The scope of work included street excavation, catch-basin relocation/installation, sub-sidewalk basement work, electrical work, sidewalk construction and street restoration, as well as a raised crosswalk at the Fern Street and Polk Street intersection. This project also included repaving of Fern Street from Polk Street to Van Ness Avenue and decorative roadway asphalt stamping near the Polk Street intersection.
